It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miamiâs Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,â Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.
âExcept perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,â the mayor added. âMay this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.â
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling âsix-sevenâ â deriving from a musical verse â often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named âsix-sevenâ its 2025 word of the year.
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary âaway from grills and cookwareâ, according to the organizers' announcement.
âThe pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,â said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
âIt embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.â
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted Six Sevenâs big moment.
