Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the team access areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
