The American champion Confident of Being 'in prime form' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, following claiming a podium spot for the fourth time in her last five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in Val d'Isere

Returning to the iconic venue for the first time in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the initial jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm pleased with my run today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn ended her career in early 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are timely.

She has an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"At the Olympics, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup campaign features a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
