Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Worries.

'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson further complicated England's injury problems upon exiting the field on the second morning in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer pulled up with his left hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

Team management indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field in order to be assessed "during the day".

The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January starts this coming Sunday.

England have already lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury during this series.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, then making 28 as a batsman being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he resumed for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of his spell, he delivered a change of pace to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

The English bowler was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the Adelaide game.
