President Trump Welcomes Families of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence

Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.

He added that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Event

US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.

Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.

White House Invitation

The president said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president informed reporters. “And likewise with him, no matter the outcome.”

Public Response

Attendees assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to support policing efforts in DC.

Remembering Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to help others.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Actions and Government Adjustments

Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The event prompted the government to halt asylum applications and cease granting entry permits to holders of travel documents.

Status of the Airman

The airman, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor the governor stated on television.

Attorney general Pam Bondi told a news show that she aimed to meet with his relatives.

Impact of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with excellence, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” he told the gathering at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
