The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
