Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

His passing follows just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry mourns the loss to a authentic original whose impact on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
